My UFC 98: Evans -VS- Machida Picks & Predictions

Posted by itsyourboyerik on 7:04 PM

MAIN CARD:

Evans -vs- Machida (LHW Championship) - This is an interesting fight because both fighters are counter-strikers. You'll rarely see them go to the ground but if they do I give the advantage to Evans for his ground and pound skills and power. However, Machida is great for frustrating opponents and luring them in to his striking advantage. As much as I want Evans to win this and beat the hell out of a boring fighter like Machida, I just think that Evans' impatience will cost him his belt. I give the slight edge to Machida. Machida wins via Unanimous Decision.

Hughes -vs- Serra - This is the fight that I'm looking forward to tomorrow night. These two basically HATE each other. They will be looking for blood. Hughes has said that he has one last fight left in him left, perhaps a win against Serra will finally put the finishing touch to his Hall of Fame career. But do not count Serra out, he can still shock the world for the second time. Serra's advantage is his power behind his punches on the feet, and if the fight ends up in the ground he can also utilize his black belt jiu jitsu on Hughes. Serra wins via Submission in 2nd rnd.

Sherk -vs- Edgar - A lightweight match that has potential to bump each fighter into title contention with a win. Sherk is coming off a win against Joe "Daddy" Stevenson in his last fight and is looking to bounce back to get his belt back. Frankie (Edgar) however is looking to climb up the ranks and show he can bang with the big boys and may catapult him into his title shot. Both have incredible punches and wrestling background. Frankie has been training with Professor Ricardo Almeida to improve his jiu-jitsu skills so it'd be interesting to see if he puts it to use against Sherk. This fight could go all 3 rounds. Edgar wins via Unanimous Decision.

Sonnen -vs- Miller - Sonnen will make his second trip back to the UFC as he faces Jersey's own Dan Miller. Sonnen has pretty good takedown skills and will most likely like to put a hurting on Miller via ground and pound. However this will play into Miller's gameplan as he tries to submit Sonnen exposing his Sonnen's lack of submission defense. Miller wins via Submission in 2nd rnd.

MH Magazine: Impress Her Friends & Family

Posted by itsyourboyerik on 9:17 AM

True, the only people who should matter in a relationship are you and her. But everyone in her life will have an opinion about you, and an unfavorable verdict can cause trouble. Here's how to earn rave reviews while staying true to yourself.

1. Her Best Friend
The fear: You're another jerk. She'll notice immediately if you have anything in common with previous jerks. She may be standoffish at first, warns LaDawn Black, author of Let's Get It On: 15 Hot Tips and Tricks to Spice Up Your Sex Life.

Your plan:
Work on befriending her, but be genuine, says Black. Take an interest in her problems. Offer thoughtful, honest opinions. Listen when the two gal pals talk about boyfriends past. "You'll be able to find out what the other men did wrong," says Leil Lowndes, author of How to Talk to Anyone.

2. Her Friendly Ex
His fear: He'll be shut out. Coffee dates that were once his domain will be ceded to you, sparking his fear that he'll be totally forgotten.

Your plan:
Her ability to have a friendship with a former flame shows that she's mature, so don't act suspicious—you'll look jealous and insecure. "Make him feel as if he's part of her life without always inviting him along," Black says. Example: Giving him a shout-out when they're on the phone together can let them both know that you don't feel threatened.

3. Her Cat The fear: You hate cats. While Mr. Whiskers has no say (we hope) in the relationship, don't think she won't notice if the cat runs the other way when you come over. "Most animal lovers, especially women, see their pets almost as children, so if you don't share her love, it can be difficult for the relationship to move forward," says Susan Logan, the editor of Cat Fancy magazine.

Your plan:
Let the animal sniff you, and then slowly scratch it under the chin or behind the ears. Ask your girlfriend to let you feed the cat to help it form a positive association—you visit, kitty eats!

4. Her Mother The fear: You'll hook her little girl and then hit the road.

Your plan:
If her parents are still together, ask her mother how they celebrated their 25th anniversary or what they're planning for their next. It shows you're not a commitment-phobic cad, Black says. If your girl's birthday or an anniversary is coming up, involve her mom in the planning. You're so thoughtful!

5. Her Father His fear: You won't be able to give his daughter the life she deserves. Even if she has her own career, "most fathers still want to know that their daughters will be taken care of," Lowndes says.

Your plan:
Don't talk salary—it screams insecurity. Instead, ask his opinion on a financial matter, such as the stocks he's been following or what he considers the best move for retirement planning. Aside from flattering him, you'll make it clear that you're a financially responsible person who is planning for the future.

After months of debate and delay, the New York State Assembly Committee on Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports has set a date for their vote on bill 2009-B, intended to regulate mixed martial arts in New York. MMA Weekly confirmed that the vote will take place Wednesday, June 3rd, and passed along these additional details:

Assemblyman Jonathan Bing, a Democrat representing the county of New York, will present the arguments in favor of the bill. Assemblyman Bob Reilly [Ed. note: Boooooo!], a Democrat representing Albany and Saratoga counties, will present the arguments opposing the bill. Mr. Reilly has been a vocal critic of the sport and last month released a document to committee members that outlined his arguments against legalizing the sport.
