My UFC 99: Comeback Picks & Predictions

Posted by itsyourboyerik on 10:03 PM

MAIN CARD:

Franklin -vs- Silva -- This match is going to be fought in a catchweight of 195. Franklin spent much of his illustrious career fighting among the middleweights (185) whereas Silva has fought among the light heavyweights (205). Franklin just looks to be the bigger and stronger fighter and will look to utilize his reach advantage to dismantle the "Axe Murderer". Silva's career has been in a spiraling decline ever since he came over from PRIDE. He has lost 4 of his last 5 fights via knockouts. He's had a hall-of-fame career and his run will end tomorrow night. Franklin wins via TKO in 2nd rnd.

Velasquez -vs- Kongo -- Kongo is taking this fight in 3 weeks notice due to an injury suffered by Heath Herring. Velasquez is undefeated in his MMA career and will look to keep that streak going as he overwhelms Kongo with take downs and his ground and pound power. Kongo is in the top of the list as a heavy contender for the title but a loss here will send him in the back of the contention line. This has potential to be fight of the night but I see it ending pretty early. Velasquez wins via TKO in 2nd rnd.

Saunders -vs- Swick -- I love this matchup because both guys will look to stand up and bang. Swick will be the toughest fighter Saunders has faced so far in the Octagon. Swick is also one of the best middleweights in the game right now. He's on a hot streak right now winning 8 of his last 10 fights. His last 3 wins has been against top tier guys like Burkman, Okami, and Davis. However, a very hungry Ben Saunders is looking to stamp his name among the best in the division and keep his undefeated streak alive. His Muay Thai skills are top notch and can finish in every aspect of the game. However I see this fight being won in the ground. Saunders wins via Submission in 2nd rnd.

Davis -vs- Hardy -- This is going to be a violent fight. These two will finally settle their beef in the ring rather than words. This fight is probably the most hyped because of the bad blood between the two. Davis is a powerful guy and has only lost once since 2006. Hardy is young and can be very cocky. However he does carry a pretty good fight resume with him as well. Both guys are going to be swinging for the fences in this bout but I just see Davis outstriking young Hardy and taking home a win. Davis wins via TKO in 2nd rnd.

Fisher -vs- Uno -- Welcome back Caol Uno. Uno has not fought in the UFC since 2003 and is looking to resurrect his career in the states with a win. Standing in his way however is a very well rounded fighter in Spencer Fisher. Fisher is a product of the Militech Fighting Systems and on a 2 fight win streak. Uno is going to look for the takedown and go for a submission for a win but Fisher has never lost via submission in his career. Fisher wins via Unanimous Decision.

Project Natal Tested Live on Jimmy Fallon (Spoiler: It Works)

Posted by itsyourboyerik on 11:57 AM

Canned videos and secondhand accounts can only tell us so much about Project Natal; it's really the kind of product you want to see for yourself. Microsoft's Kudo Tsunado went on Jimmy Fallon last night to give us a look.

Microsoft's initial announcement was prerecorded and very controlled, and our early hands-on experiences couldn't be filmed. Microsoft loosened up tonight, letting Fallon and, uhh, Jim from The Office jump in and out of Natal's sensor area to take control of live demos on national TV. As a segment, it was a little awkward, even in the context of Jimmy Fallon's show. As a tech demo? Drawn large across a 108-inch Sharp LCD, Natal came off as a tiny bit glitchy, but otherwise fantastic. [NBC]

The Truth About DUI’s

By Alexandra Paul

Unfortunately, most college students know at least one person who has gotten a DUI.  As law enforcement in the state has been cracking down more and more on DUI’s, it is important to know the consequences of what’s becoming an all too common occurrence.

For a first time drunk driving conviction, a $450 dollar fine and another $500 fee for a DUI assessment can be expected.  More than just paying nearly $1,000, the driver will also spend time behind bars, up to ten days.  To further punish the driver, the state will suspend his or her license from anywhere between 90 days to an entire year.  This is for just one DUI conviction, so for those who think that getting a DUI is not that big of deal, they are wrong.

Many people who are convicted of DUI’s often wonder if they should hire a very expensive defense attorney.  The cost of such lawyers can cost anywhere from $2,000 to $25,000, which, for most college students, is far too much money to pay to attempt to get a lesser punishment for their crime.  However, there are various advantages to hiring a lawyer for their case; for example, lawyers can help their clients understand what their rights are, what not to say in court, and the attorney might assist their clients in receiving a lesser jail sentence and a smaller fine.

Whatever the case may be, college students must be more responsible than ever when it comes to wild nights out.  If people want to avoid massive fines, jail stays, lawyer fees, and a suspended license, then pay the money for a cab ride home; it will cost you much less than a DUI.

Start Your Day with More Energy

By Emily Cunningham

Pick a bedtime, and stick with it.  Waking up well rested starts the night before. If you get enough sleep each night will make waking up easier, and allow you to get more accomplished throughout the day.

Skip the snooze button. Let yourself stay in deep sleep until you actually have to wake up. You will get more quality sleep than if you wake up a half and hour early and press snooze every five minutes.

Open the blinds. Sunshine will kick start your biological clock.

Turn on some music. Listening to songs you love will help your mind wake up, and make your morning routine more enjoyable.

Exercise. Even if you can’t get a full work-out in, something as simple as a ten minute walk or stretch will get your blood flowing and help kick start your day.

Take a cool shower. This will help wash away the sleep, leaving you feeling clean and fresh for the day.

Eat breakfast; drink orange juice. Try to get a balanced meal in the morning. Look for cereal with protein and fiber. Eating in the morning starts your metabolism and will keep you from over eating throughout the rest of the day.  A high metabolic rate will help your burn fat and have more energy.

Must Urijah Faber Be So Laid Back In Every Situation?

Posted by itsyourboyerik on 6:07 AM

Urijah Faber surgery
(Nothing, not even that hair net, can get "The California Kid" down.)

Apparently it wasn’t enough for Urijah Faber to post X-rays of his broken right hand on Twitter after his loss to Mike Brown at WEC 41.  Now he’s also chronicling his journey into surgery to have it fixed, while calmly wondering if he may have broken the left hand, too.  Because wouldn't that just be a kick in the balls?  Clearly, nothing bums this guy out that much.  Which is probably how you have to be in order to live the life of a pro fighter.  Post-fight surgery is just part of the deal.  Of course, so are post-fight groupies, so maybe it all evens out in the end.

Shouldn’t Pau Gasol At Least Care that He Looks Like a Drunken Big Bird?

Posted by itsyourboyerik on 11:06 PM

PauBird

As the Lakers took game 2 last night in a much closer battle with the Magic, I couldn’t help but come back to the same creepy thought I’ve felt all year about the Lakers….how can I keep watching Pau Gasol?

I mean I didn’t used to feel this way about the guy.  He was a clean cut dude when he entered the league.  Much shorter hair.  It seems as though he at least cared about his grooming back then.  And trust me, I’m taking nothing away from his game.  He’s truly an all star and is easily the second biggest reason this team should win it all this year.

But now, every single time this guy makes a big shot, gets a rebound, or does anything that would elicit him to scream and do a chest bump with teammates seriously gives me the willies.

And he has to smell awful.  I mean just look at the hair and beard.  I feel for Kobe.  I’m sure he’s all shits and giggles on the outside, but inside he must be so conflicted having to touch Pau.

Come on Pau, you’re a great player but clean it up, just a little…please?

Saltiest Pizza in America

Pizza Hut Meat Lover's Stuffed Crust Pizza (3 slices of the 14'' large)

Sodium 5,070 mg
Calories 1,560
Fat 87 g
Carbohydrates 114 g

Salt Equivalent: 34 strips of bacon

A good rule of thumb: Never order a pizza with more than a single meat topping. Because if the calories don't get you, the salt will. This problematic pie has six meats and 4,000 mg sodium too much.

Top 5 Places to Start a REAL Relationship

Posted by itsyourboyerik on 10:50 PM

Many college students complain that it is difficult to start a serious relationship because so many people are focused on hooking up, going out, and getting drunk.  As fun as these things might be, there are plenty of students who are over it.  For those people who are ready to find someone special, this list is for you!  Here are the top 5 places to start a real relationship!

The Library: It’s not just for nerds anymore!

As the job marketplace is getting more and more competitive, students who are serious about their futures are spending long hours in the library studying for exams and writing papers.  Take out your head phones and keep a watchful eye out for a hottie studying near you, he or she might be the first person you bring home to your parents! For people who are interested in a career AND a relationship… head to Hayden Library!

The Park: It’s not just for kids anymore!

So the park might not seem like a normal place to meet someone special… but you would be surprised just how many hot guys are playing football or how many hot girls are walking their dogs.  If you are in to sports, animals or the outdoors, borrow your neighbor’s dog and go to the park; you might just end up rollin’ around the grass with your new man.. or woman!

Volunteering: It’s not just for your resume anymore!

Picking up trash  might not seem like a glamorous way to find a significant other, but doing something good for your community just might be good for your love life too! Put out some good karma and volunteer with a local nonprofit.  If you want to change the world, volunteer your time; you never know what kind hearted hottie is waiting for you!

A Sporting Event: It’s not just for old men with beer bellies anymore!

If you sing “Take Me Out to Ballgame” in your sleep, then the next time you go to a baseball game put your “guy-dar” or “girl-dar” on!  You’ll find that it will be beeping all night with all of the hot sports fans.  If your top priority in a relationship is being able to talk sports with your bf/gf, then you won’t be disappointed if you meet someone at a game.

Hiking: It’s not just for the exercise anymore!

If your health is of the utmost importance to you, then maybe you’ve tried meeting people at your gym before, but try going on a hike instead!   The people hiking are of a whole different breed than the people at the gym! Every where you look there are beautiful, tanned people running up the side of a mountain.  If you want to start a relationship based on love AND health, there is no better way to meet someone than by hiking.

No matter where your priorities in your life and relationships may fall, meeting someone who wants to get serious in college can be hard.  No matter what, just keep an open mind and try everything!  You can’t go wrong by exploring new places and meeting new people.

What Every 24-35 Year Old's Facebook Profile Really Says

Posted by itsyourboyerik on 7:33 PM

Lately, it seems like facebook has been going downhill.  I get two or three friend requests every day from random chicks who are clearly just spammers, and there are so many quizzes and surveys going around that finding useful information on my homepage is like trying to find a Mike & Ike in a baby pool full of diahrrea.  It didn't used to be like this, and facebook is getting crappier by the day.  Here's what every 24-35 year old's facebook profile is really saying.

5 Summer Beer Tips From an American Patriot

Posted by itsyourboyerik on 9:22 PM

Slap on that Speedo and smear on that sunscreen. OK, scratch the Speedo. You can’t pull it off anyway. What I’m trying to say is that summer is almost here and we're running out of time to prepare. And when it comes to beer, there is definitely a right way and a wrong way to sip your suds.

After all, why spend all that money on good beer if you aren’t going to make sure that it’s in peak physical condition when it hits your lips?

Jim Koch, founder and head hops honcho at the Boston Beer Company – makers of all things Sam Adams – has a few tips that are sure to get you headed in the right direction:

1 - If you’re going to hit the beach, go for a beer packaged in brown bottles. (As opposed to green or clear.) Too much light (especially direct sunlight) can skunk beer. Brown bottles keep out sunlight better than green or clear, protecting your beer from those harmful rays. Which is why Koch will only use brown for Samuel Adams.

2 - Store beer upright in your cooler or on the door of refrigerator, never on its side. Storing beer on its side can expose more of the beer to oxygen and sunlight, causing it to go bad more quickly.

3 - Don’t be afraid to re-chill your beer. The cold-to-warm-to-cold again temperature thing is a myth. The colder you keep your beer (35 to 40 degrees F is good), the longer it will stay fresh. If your beer gets to room temperature, chill it again. However, if you’re beer gets too hot, say for example you’ve left it in a hot car all day, it will hasten its deterioration, causing the beer to oxidize giving it a “cardboard” taste.

4 - Always store your beer inside a cooler with a lid versus an ice bucket. The cooler will not only keep you beer colder longer, but will also protect it from sunlight, which again, is a major cause of skunking.

5 - The best way to properly enjoy your beer is poured in a room temperature glass, NEVER a chilled or frosty mug. A chilled mug can dilute the aroma and flavor of your beer if it’s too cold, or if it has picked up odors from the fridge.

That about covers the brew basics. If you follow these few simple rules (including the Speedo one) you are sure to have the best beer experience possible.

And so you don’t leave feeling as if I haven’t dropped the prerequisite pearl of wisdom, pontificate on this point: Beer is like a woman... if you take care of it and treat it with the respect it deserves, it won’t leave a bad taste in your mouth and you won’t have to throw it out before you’ve had your fill. Bottoms up!

Yoga: Designing Crazy Women

Posted by itsyourboyerik on 2:11 PM

I understand that yoga is good for you and everything, but you can't deny the fact that sometimes it looks completely crazy and ridiculous. Designing Women's Dixie Carter, the actress in this video, doesn't really help much either, because she's completely crazy and ridiculous to begin with. If I ever find myself in a Red Dawn-type situation, where I'm heading up a guerilla faction against a legitimate army, I'll tell all of my team to just sit out in the open and do this, because there's no way that any army would mess with someone as crazy as Dixie Carter.
